@themarksman I think we need to wait till Saturday to submit PTA’s so the servers can sync up. P.S, licence hasn’t come in the mail yet

The Licence Number: xxxxxxxxxx is invalid for this application.

Hopefully once the systems sync up it will give me the go ahead

Hi all, would anyone have any idea what the wait times are like now? I submitted my application via Service NSW on the 8th of February '20 and it was acknowledged on the 12th of February. So far 94 calendar days since applying, or 13 and a bit weeks. I called them at about the 8 week mark and they said not to hold my breath. But mentioned they weren't impacted by COVID at all. A mate of mine applied on the same date and she's in the same boat. I'm not in a hurry by any means but with ranges rumored to be opening back up by Friday the 15th of May I wouldn't mind attending some time soon.

Have a read of all the above. The average seems to be 130 days before you are even referred to Services NSW. Hang in there.

I am at 150 days and hoping to receive my physical licence in the mail any day.

NSW PTA Wait times

Post by Mikey91 » 14 May 2020, 11:21 am

Hey all,

Just wondering if people are experiencing longer wait times for PTAs to be approved online since the lock down began in NSW.

Applied for 3 PTAs on the 24th od April and still waiting on an update. I'm aware there's bats**t wait times for licenses to be issued at the moment perhaps this is having an effect?

WOOHOO. Applied 30 January. Had a F.A.R. rep email because they needed a copy of my club membership card. Sent that through and they have recommended my licence for issue following a final police check over the next few days. So assuming it gets issued Monday that will be 109 days from application. Damn they must have flown through December and January?

Now to wait for my letter and off to the RMS.

Almost too good to be true.

Super excited, I think they must simply be becoming efficient with application processing.

I applied 04/03. This is music to my ears, lol.

Cash ready for a LA101 in .17hmr and Howa 1500 in .308.

Nice one. With me applying 1 day after you, I am hoping mine will be near the top of the pile as well.

Last time I spoke to them they told me my documents were in order so hopefully soon.

Finally!!!

15/01 Cat A/B application
16/05 Referred to service NSW

121 days or 4 months

Based on what I'm seeing by others it's about 118 to 120 days for Jan applications, the update goes through about 3am on Saturdays only.

Edit: I dare say Feb/March processing times may creep back up as Dec and Jan applications were about 30-40% less than other months.

Ok stupid question time.

When I eventually get my license in hand. Do I goto the gun store and place deposit on said rifle and then apply for PTA, or do I apply for PTA and then place deposit on rifle?

The rifle I am looking at is not stocked by my local gun store, however they have told me they can get it in.

If its the same as QLD you don't need a licence to buy a firearm. You need a licence to process a firearm. You can pay for it right now and do the PTA later.

ok thanks.

Given it will be my first PTA, it has a mandatory 28 day waiting period.

If they have to order the rifle in it is a good idea to pay the deposit so they can get the ball rolling and get it in store. QLD lets you do your PTAs when you apply for your licence so you can bypass the 28 day waiting period.

Update from FAR this morning, license has been progressed pending final police check over this weekend. Not sure if they mean week rather than weekend, but at least they're up to 11/2 and making some progress.
