I'm about 2 weeks behind your timeline. Waiting so long is going to make the trip to the gun shop so much sweeter :drinks:

Thanks for the pickup! Yes 6 months... just feels like 7 months., :wtf:

Update. My PTAs arrived in the post today 09th March.
Heading to the dealer on Friday arvo to collect my 22LR (CZ 452!), off to the bush next weekend to try it out.

The longest part is waiting for that licence to get approved. Getting photo taken, waiting for licence card time is fine.
The PTA process is pretty reasonable too (28 days cooling off, postage time etc).

I have my 40th birthday in July so wanted to get it sorted before then. That's why I was calculating how many months it took you.

Hopefully some people got some good news on Sat morning... Meanwhile the rest of pray they are starting to catch back up

I’m about 2 weeks behind you (early January). By the looks of things, they’re up to late October, so we’ll probably be waiting till May.

Posting for my mother waiting for her Probationary Cat H Licence. Applied 18th November so 17 weeks by tomorrow 16 March. And I only just applied for my full Cat H licence at the end of January. FML. Hopefully they finish up approving the "high volume of applications" they talk receiving at the end of last year and speed up soon.

That’s strange, are you cat a/b or cat h? I applied for cat a/b on 05/01/2020 and it’s still on “NEW APPLICATION IN PROGRESS -NOT AUTHORISED FOR FIREARMS”

Well that confirms they have no idea what they're actually doing or that there's no confirmed timeline that they are working off. A few posts up themarksman posted this email response from 2 weeks ago saying they're in latter half of October.

themarksman wrote:I saw this email today. Allegedly they are now up to 20th October 2019

This is a joke and it's only just going to get worse now I wager with more pandemic restrictions coming into place and resources being diverted.

I think they’re in November but they’re using October as a cover for some reason. I don’t think it will be long before you get a response, but let us know when you do. Maybe they’re pulling them randomly out of a hat

I find it highly doubtful that someone that applied 05/01/2020 has been Referred to Service NSW already. That sounds like a bit of a s**t stir.

I think when you talk to the Services NSW staff they just tell you a month or where they think they are up to. When you actually talk to the real Firearms Registry they seem to give you more specific dates.

Spot on. Last time I called before I got the licence they told me the date and exact stage of application I was at. Better to hear.it from the horses mouth

I have found that if you email firearmsenq@police.nsw.gov.au which is the one of their website you will never get a response.

However if you email firearms@police.nsw.gov.au then it goes straight to the firearms registry staff and they reply within a couple of days.

My PPL went active on 10/12/19 and last weekend I completed my third match and today I jumped online to apply for a PTA as suggested by the club trainer. He figured the application would sit in the system until the first 6 months were up. Unfortunately as soon as I put my license number in, I get an error message saying not permitted for this license. So now I have to wait until 10th June before submitting my PTA. What a long drawn out process.

Well bugger. I applied for my licence on the 11th November 2019. Still waiting for it to be approved.
I guess it's luck of the draw these days as to when it gets processed...hopefully there's some progress soon for all of us still waiting☺.

I’d say give it about 2 more weeks. By the looks of things they’re doing applications 1 week at a time.

Hey everyone,

Just fired first rounds through my new rifle the other day. This is for a primary production ABC.

- Applied 1st or 2nd of September, pretty much right after doing the safety course and getting my certificate.
- A couple weeks later I got a letter giving me my firearms licence number, which allowed me to check its status online.
- Nothing happened until around the 11th of January where it was then actually referred to service NSW.
- A couple weeks later it was approved and I got a letter saying I had to go to Service NSW to get my photo taken. I did that the day I got it in the mail haha.
- Then I waited another couple weeks until I got my licence in the mail. Probably somewhere around 15 or 20th of Feb.
- Put in my PTA as soon as I got the licence in hand, that took another 35 days roughly. (Cat B Rifle)
- I ordered a rifle and had it delivered to my local dealer. (As you'd imagine this was the fastest part of the process haha!)
- Picked it up a couple days ago and shot a few rounds through it.

So all up, around 6.5 months from application to being able to actually shoot on my property.

I originally just got a rifle for culling some rabbits and foxes that have been destroying the property a bit, but I think I might try and join a club for fun, get me out and socialising haha. So I suppose I'll give you wait times on having additional genuine reasons added soon aswell.

I saw a thread on this forum which basicly reccomened it's better to wait for a licence renewal to add a genuine reason as it can cost the same to reapply.

Not NSW, but word on the street to n WA that there has been close to 1400% increase in new gun sales over the last fortnight with applications quickly approaching 6 month wait territory, but the flood hasn't ended as the majority of new gun buyers haven't got safes yet and all the gun stores have or nearly have sold out. So will be interesting to see what goes down

I spoke to my local store (Sydney) re safes, they said they had a run on safe sales. I managed to pick up the floor stock model as people are concerned given many are made in China that new safes will be hard to come by.

Applied for my licence (cat A and B) on 01-11-2019. Just received notice that it had been referred to Services NSW for processing/issue today. 131 days. Crikey. Now for actual licence and PTA. Looking like a 6 month process from the proficiency test to actually being able to acquire a firearm.
