US version of the Ruger Scout now available in Australia

Post by harlow » 21 Jan 2014, 2:10 pm

Hi guys,

Not sure if I'm a bit late to this, but I see the original US version of the Ruger Scout is now available in Australia with the 16.5" barrel and the flash hider.

I understood that these weren't allowed to be imported which is why we had the 18" barrel with no thread.

So we are allowed flash hiders now? I thought that was a no no?

The problem was actually with them being exported from America because of their restrictions on military equipment (ATAR or ITAR can't remember the proper term) as far as I'm aware there's no restrictions on flash hiders in australia

I prefer our version anyway, the stainless looks better than the parkerized barrel and the extra 1.5" of barrel never goes astray

I believe the issue was actually the thread specifically, not the flash hider.

The thread on the scout was the same as the one that was used on the US M16 and other military and assault rifles which put it into the 'not for export' category with ITAR. (International Traffic in Arms Regulations, for you Baldrick...)

They changes it to an "Australian" thread and so can no import the 'original' version of the rifle.

The original is a nicer rifle IMO too if you're looking at buying one.
See you on the firing line.

That's how they stop the export. Impossible to get the paperwork right

It definitely looks better blued than with that stainless barrel.

Jeez Baldrick, if you think that's too many acronyms you ought to try being a Scout leader! :-)
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

I could do it.

"Kids! Go play, don't hurt yourselves."

See, acronyms circumvented. Pro leadership right there...
