License waiting time

Post by headspace » 10 Feb 2014, 8:24 pm

Anyone got any idea about how long it takes to get a license approved in NSW these days? I lodged mine back in 10th Dec 13. and still waiting.

As you've probably read it's "35 day minimum" for the license to be issued, in reality it seems to be 6 - 8 weeks based on feedback here.

Add 2 weeks for them being closed over Christmas too...

Next week will make it 10 weeks, so I reckon you can expect it then.

Hey headspace,

Mine took 9 weeks to the day. Expect it any day now I'd say.

Don't want to rub it in but in Victoria waiting times are exactly as quoted, 28 days even including the Christmas period,

I rang them and the nice lady (true) said that the delay was caused by my hunting form not being filled in and signed by my property owner of choice. They sent me one and I returned it registered mail about 10 days ago. So I rang up just to make sure they had it. That was OK but it will be another 2-3 weeks yet.

Bugger.

Oh well, at least you got your answer.

I hope your 2-3 weeks flies by. I would be surprised if it doesn't come sooner now. :D

I have found the 6-8 weeks to be right on the button. I do think one should ring up about 14 days or so after they've sent in the forms to 1) make sure they were received and 2) to ask if they have all they need. The latter being really important as this can add lots more time if they don't. I have found the registry really easy to deal with and they have always been helpful. Calling does seem to keep an application on track I've found as long as one asks politely. ;)

Yes, being polite is very important especially so when the person on the other end of the phone isn't at fault. Trouble is, it's like being a little kid waiting for Christmas!

I share your frustration. Inside info suggests that there is a distinct lack of staff to manage the applications etc. My licence took around 5 weeks, so you have to be patient. As said before, the staff at NSW Firearms seem to be a good bunch. I am waiting for some PTA's and time seems to drag on. Oh well, may as well have another bourbon while I wait.

The guys on the phone are just doing their job (most of them any way), it's the legislation and lack of resources that cause the delays.
