License and PTA arrived, no gun safe yet though

Post by roob » 04 Mar 2014, 9:54 am

Hi guys,

Posting this on behalf of a friend of mine who's recently moved to Victoria and done his licensing stuff.

Between moving and a few other things, he lost track of time and didn't get around to getting a gun safe yet but his license and PTA have now both arrived.

His question is can he go and pick up the rifle and gun safe in one swoop, and head home and install the safe before leaving anything there?

The rifle would never be out of his care, just technically he would be without the required storage for the day until he was home and finished bolting it in.

All good hopefully? Trying to save himself two trips obviously...

Thanks.

I don't see why not.
It would be like taking the gun out of the safe to clean it, it would be sitting on the bench outside of the safe.
Go for it.

As long as he never leaves it unattended he hasn't failed to store it so no worries as I read it.

Common sense obviously... Just make sure he does install the safe properly before leaving anything at home.

Not having a break for lunch and leaving it unbolted for an hour ;)

Pretty sure they'll issue both of those without a safe?

One of the VIC guys confirm, but I think they they do their license application there it asks if you meet the security requirements, you can pick 'no' and explain why and they still give you your license.

You say no, but say you'll sort things out before you are storing any guns.

If he does it all on the day, no worries I'm sure.

Yeah, he can do what becks outlined.

I had both my license and PTA issued before I picked up my safe also.

No problem as I see it, as long as he doesn't leave it in the house while he runs to bunnings to buy dynabolts.

Thanks guys.

I will pass the information along.

I suspected it would be ok. Everything's on the level here of course, he's not trying to avoid buying the safe or anything dodgy like that.

Logically seems it would be ok to pick it all up and install it on the same day, he just wanted to make sure he wasn't going to get caught on some technicality.

Cheers.
