Straight pull shotgun classification in NSW

Post by bcr83 » 15 Jul 2020, 7:54 am

Hi all,

What action is a straight pull shotty classes as? I thought It was bolt action (Cat A)

I ordered a shotgun and sent it to my gunsmith to have some modifications done and he was a bit sceptical of whether it complies with New South Wales legislation for my category A PTA.

It has 7 round tube mag and straight pull. I had a look at the firearms act and basically as far as I understand it has unlimited capacity restriction based on the action type because it is not a lever, pump or semi.

Can anyone else confirm this or own something like this in New South Wales eg. straight pull that holds more than 5 rounds in the tube?

Thanks

Was the modification to increase the tube mag?

Hi mate no it's all factory but the supplier has just confirmed with the gunsmith that several NSW dealers are supplying and selling , as it's a bolt action and unmodified it has unlimited tube capacity

Same in QLD Cat A bolt action has no magazine limit.

I ordered the same gun, the gun shop that did the transfer said reclassification could be an issue, down the track.

No issues there gents, nothing legislated or planned as far as I'm aware.

Old mate might not like it, but its still legal where it counts.

Same here for my new MH12....it's cat a3 and has double barrel twin tube and holds 10+2 if needed, I'm sure they'll try to ban this gun soon enough. But currently it's legal, hope it stays that way.
