Club Membership Renewal - need to let registry know?

Post by yaraRule » 02 Jul 2022, 6:19 pm

Hiya all,

I'm a recent Cat A/B licensee in NSW - don't own my own firearm yet if that's important.

Potentially silly question - I applied for my license and it took a fairly long time to get approved, so I've had to renew my club membership recently and was wondering - do I need to let the registry know (update my genuine reason, etc.) every time I renew my club membership? Or is renewing with the club enough.

Just don't want to lose my license for forgetting an administrative step and have to go through the same rigmarole again.

Thanks!

What is your Cat A/B genuine reason?

Hunting?
Target shooting?
both?

I assume you are a member of the SSAA?

You don't need to let the FAR know about your club renewal, you just need to make sure you have done the minimum number of attendances for your genuine reason.

For example if you are with the SSAA for a genuine reason of Hunting. Make sure you do at least 2 hunting attendances per year and the SSAA have that recorded.

It's worth mentioning there is an extension for attendances in NSW: https://ssaansw.org.au/reminder-attendances-extended-2020-2022/
