How long does it take for the first pistol PTA to be issued?

Post by stevenguo188 » 24 Jul 2022, 10:02 pm

Hi all,

Applied for my first pistol PTA under my PPL about 40 days ago. The status still says "referred for adjudication".
I have tried calling FAR they told me to keep waiting.
Is this normal or is the FAR playing up again?

The FAR is backed up and has been for a long time.

It honestly could be months..

I’m not so sure about that. Average PTA processing time is around 2 weeks, give it take.

It could be that the PTA was filled out incorrectly, or some issue/ delay with club confirmation.

I have a PTA application in with the same "rederred for adjudication" status, my initial application was at the start of May however for some reason my COPS number didnt get linked to my application in the system so I had to resubmit.
At this stage it is looking like a 4 month minimum wait before I can get a pistol. Is this going to be taken into account for my mandatory attendances?

I have a cat H licence. Applied on June 8 and it was issued June 16 so I don't think the issue is that they have a backlog.

Doubt it. You can use a club pistol like you did during your training.

There are no mandatory attendaces for cat h. There are mandatory scored shoots once you get a pistol. No pistol means no mandatory shoots.

The biggest holdups these days can be your club as they have to approve your application after you apply.

Wait times for cat H are erratic, generally 30 days once your club confirms it.
