Buying and Selling firearm accessories

Post by Point223 » 09 Mar 2015, 2:43 pm

Is it legal to buy and sell firearm accessories on ebay? By accessories I mean stocks, mounts, scopes, cleaning products and items, etc.. No firearm parts.

Most of the ads I've seen on eBay for firearm accessories seem to have "No firearm parts" "No weapon parts" etc included in the description. I assume that's a requirement.

Just check their policies will be different to what's legal.

Just so you don't waste your time posting and have it deleted.

Here you go, policy as it's posted today.

Policy overview

Most weapons can't be sold on eBay because of strict government regulations and international laws. To safeguard the community, we may also ban other related items that are legal to sell outside of eBay.

Please see the What are the guidelines? section below for a comprehensive list of what is and isn't allowed.

Make sure your listing follows our guidelines. If it doesn't, it may be removed, and your buying and selling privileges could be restricted.

Ammunition
Live ammunition and ammunition components can't be listed.

Allowed
Snap caps
Reloading equipment, including items such as dies and moulds

Restricted
Empty ammunition boxes. The listing needs to say the item doesn't contain ammunition.

Not allowed
Items that are not allowed include but are not limited to:
Blank, dummy, live or inert ammunition
Bullets
Cartridges
Casings
Gunpowder
Hulls
Primer
Shells

BB guns, pellet guns and air rifles

We don't allow listings for Airsoft guns, BB guns, pellet guns, or air rifles because they generally shoot a projectile.

Firearms

Actual firearms can't be listed on eBay. Some accessories for firearms are okay to sell, but only under certain conditions. See the list below for more details.

...

Allowed
Calibre conversion information or blueprints
Magazine holders

Restricted
Accessories for guns such as butt plates, cleaning supplies, holsters, pistol grips, racks, scopes, slings, stocks, storage cases or trigger guards. The listing must include a description of the type of firearm the accessory or part is used for. If it doesn't, the listing may be removed.

Not allowed
Items that are not allowed include, but are not limited to:
Firearms regardless of their ability to fire, how old they are, or their status as collectables curio & relic, signalling pistols, and antique firearms
Any item that is designed to discharge any shot, bullet or other missile
Gun parts, including, but not limited to:
Barrels
Choke tubes
Cylinders
Firing pins
Frames, including grip frames
Magazines, regardless of capacity
Receivers, including parts, upper or lower, cut, or 80 per cent receivers
Slides
Trigger assemblies
Parts or accessories for assault weapons. Listings that mention capability with an assault weapon, even if the part or accessory fits non-assault weapons, are also prohibited.
Any listing for a firearm accessory which contains a picture of the firearm itself
Converters (items that can be used to give a firearm automatic firing capability)
Firearm kits that are used to create a firearm
Flash suppressors
Sears
Silencers
Zip guns
Browning A-Bolt M-1000 Eclipse 308 Win

I'm not talking about Ebay rules. I could care less if they delete my post. I'm interested in what's legal for NSW as far as our government and firearm registry are concerned.

I have emailed the firearm registry for more information but until they reply, any ideas?

Easy enough to figure it out by looking what's available already, check the Midway Australia store on the link below. One of the best stores I've come across on eBay and I happen to know him and can vouch for his character.

Just think what you need to show your license for. If you can walk into a shop and buy it without having to show your license you can buy/sell as you please.

Mounts, scopes, cleaning products as you listed all ok.

Stocks aren't regulated in NSW I'm 99% sure? Same for trigger mechanisms.

Action parts and barrels are the only things that would upset the apple cart.

Waiting for the written response is obviously good.

In the mean time see if you can get an answer over the phone while you're waiting for the written response?

Could let you get the ball rolling for whatever your goal is sooner.

It's a good idea but my goal is all planned for and established. I'm waiting for a yay or nay from the registry. If I call and they say yes I'll still have to wait for the written response before I go ahead because I don't want to risk it. Plus I was on hold for a good 40 mins last time before I spoke to an officer
