What to do for spare parts.

Questions about Queensland gun and ammunition laws. QLD Weapons Act 1990.

What to do for spare parts.

I recently bought a new Push Button Release centrefire rifle.
Which is,,,,,,,,, legal here in Qld.

However, in Albansleazy's ultimate kneejerk lack of wisdom,,,, the federal govt has banned further imports Australia wide.

So the ridiculous situation now seems to be, that it's legal for me to own the rifle but illegal to gain access to any spare parts if needed in the future.

Where to from here, :unknown: :unknown: :unknown:

You bought a Verney-Carron?
What calibre? Any report - likes/dislikes?

Mate ASA has just released a video saying they will honour spares for your rifle into the future, but ONLY for approved warranty claims.

Whether this stays fact is most likely not true.

So if you haven't bought the gun-specific extra mags (like the box-mag shotgun like my wife's) or other bits, it's over and that's it. So it's suck eggs, lucky she bought four.
Luckily for you, the mags in your 223 can be found, in better quality than supplied (P-mags)
Dent one of the paper-thin soft mag tubes, you're stuffed. Crack one of the plastic parts made from recycled ice-cream buckets, whoops.
Cocking handle flies off into the dirt (how great is that design, eh, with a ball-bearing and biro spring holding it in?) it's all over.
These are things buyers in Warwick are sucking up now, and their guns are unusable, according to one dealer anyway, copping the heat from farmer-buyers who don't cotton-wool these rifles. They aren't standing up too well, is the scuttlebutt from blokes trying to use them frequently.

As far as the plastic bits that wear out fast, like the trigger groups and forends that crack, well, maybe that's going to be in big demand at the gun wrecking yards.

Yes and No Mate. Yes I bought a Chimera,,, although my preference was for a Eureka, but they’ve stopped making them. No,,, i certainly did not by a Verney Carron. I’d already made that mistake, as Wapiti could attest to. I bought a brand new one in 308 with timber stock. And sold it flat out like a lizard drinking. A beautiful looking rifle, and felt magnificent when picked up,,,, but that was its limit. It was plagued with jamming issues just trying to cycle the thing. I sold it without firing a single shot. My gunsmith said it was the hardest firearm he’s ever had the misfortune to work on. The manufacturers of all these button/lever release rifles just can’t get it right. They can make semi autos that are far simpler and with superior reliability,, but not in the Verney, Chimera, Alcor lever/button release rifles. They all seem to have the same issues.

Heads up guys, from what I've seen from guns used by mates sons along the border river here, really hammered, if you are looking for one second-hand, the Alcor is the go.
Yes, it has a wood stock and no muzzle thread... at least the 3 on properties out here didn't... but easily fixed there on a lathe.
Unfortunately the bulk of sales went to Chimeras due to marketing bigtime, the pistolgrip options available, black plastic tacticool looks and the forend button. As well as the un-needed muzzle device making everyone deafer around you.
But looking at the trigger groups and general workmanship they are in a higher league. And they have one big added benefit... their design which is more advanced than Chimera. Those watching YouTube will know that they were adapted from a sporting semi-auto rifle that's very popular in Canada... easily taken advantage of.

It's a shame they (Alcors) weren't more popular here and the chaff opposition ended up more popular. Particularly seeing there's a 308 as well, I'm led to believe.
As always, only IMHO from examples i've seen that are having a hard life, the Chimeras aren't doing that very well.

just did a quick google , apparently these alcors have a chrome lined barrel and chamber . that's military type spec , 'spose seeing as how their based on a turkish made semi popular in canada , with extreme weather conditions , i'm not surprised the alcor is robust . after all , canada only got rid of their 303 Enfield's issued to rangers in 2017 . says a lot about Enfield's too i guess :D one thing about the alcor is it's 1-7 twist rate . probably not the optimum for the usual 55gn 223 culling ammo most people like to use . is there any such thing as the perfect gun ? mind you, if there is , we wouldn't be allowed to own it in OZ ..... stainless mini 14 anyone ? very reliable , durable , yes i watched "the A team" in the 80"s
