Select fire rifles

G'day all,

I meant to ask this a week ago when I had an article in front of me but have lost it now

Anyway, questions is - I was looking at some new rifles (most of which I can't have, so just looking for fun) and the laws/licensing around them.

One of them was (I think) on QLD Police website about select fire rifles, and they seemed to make a big deal over the 'select fire' part of it.

If you've got the license for an automatic rifle though, what the hell does it matter if it's select fire?

Seems like they're getting in a huff over being able to switch the rifle to a slower firing rate which obviously doesn't make any sense.

Any excuse to ban something. If they can squeeze the word 'military' onto the page somewhere it's an instant excuse to ban it.

That's basically what the law says isn't it?

Something like "similar to a military firearm in appearance or function" ?

That's the gist of it.

Also if it's still used by the military anywhere in the world it's banned too.

There was a think on this for the M14 a while ago because it's still used for training or something I think by some US army units.
