Dealer submits it over the computer here straight to Vic licensing.

As far as I know the approval comes back the same way, no form to post back.

My fastest PTA was 3-4 hours.

Last 308 PTA took me 3 months, and had to write a long paragraph why I should get one. (obviously not my first 308). Luck of the draw who you get as the Weapons Section officer. Some guys are very reasonable, some not so.

Having said that Cat A PTA was only 7 days (applied last week, got it with one).

Silly thing about my last hold up with the PTA was that I was holding too many 308s, gently 'encouraged' to sell one, before application process. Having said that, if I had applied for a 300 WINMAG or 300RUM, no problem..... go figure.

16 weeks. Finally got the email and did the ID check at the police station.

Seems my application was tripped up because of a conviction I have less than 5 years ago. The conviction was dangerous driving (wheel stand on my bike down the highway) understandable that it had to go to a supervisor but 16 weeks is ridiculous.

So question, how long after the ID check will I receive my license and do you think the PTA I put in at time of the application will show at the same time?

So i called weapons licencing today (after doing my i.d check two weeks ago) to see what the go was with waiting times so on and so on, and was told that i have to reply to further correspondence before any more information is given to me. does anyone know what they will be askin for?

same here, I didnt call but its been two weeks since my i.d check and still waiting... just when i was getting my hopes up about getting my licence...

right, so i just called and they told me that my local police station completed their task and send out approval or whatever back to weapons licensing and the people from licensing havent done anything with it yet, so they let my assessor know that my id check was done and now im waiting to get stuff finalized. so i'll just have to wait...

if i learned something from this whole process, its to be patient!

My partner and I did our license just before Christmas 2013... the License arrived in April/May. The PTA took 5-6 weeks for the first one. I have just submitted two more, lets see how they go?

can i ask how long did you have to wait between the I.D check and the license arriving?

I did the ID check 2 Wednesdays ago, rang them the next Monday and they told me the license was issued on the Friday so this week just gone I expected it in the mail all week (stalking the mailman) and nothing. if they say its issued you expect it to be done and in transit. your right about having to have patients with this process. its been just over 4 months since I applied haha.
I have friends who have just put applications in, there all excited and shopping for there first firearm. I just laugh and tell them to calm down and settle in for a long wait.

Yeah, Its just waiting and waiting... really I'm just waiting to get my license, so then i can wait for my pta... It seems i might be going to the range around xmas time....

Well 18 weeks today and my license arrived. Glad I have 10 years before I have to do that again. Rang and they told me Monday they will fax my PTA to the dealer I bought my first firearm off.

THE NEXT CHAPTER - after submitting an application for a Weapons Licence online, waiting 6-8 weeks and then getting a email from WLB to report to a nominated Police Station for ID verification, what happens next?

After providing proof of ID, make sure that the "Police Station Use Only" section of the form is completed and returned to you for your records.

May I suggest that you send of a email in the next day or 2 to WLB, confirming that you have attended the police station as directed and attach a scanned copy of the completed form, 'for you information".

I waited 3 weeks after attending etc, sent of an email re issue of licence and received a reply requesting I send through a copy of the completed Police Use only section as the police station has not stamped and signed the copy so that WLB can follow up the ID check ASAP.

Now, bearing in mind that should the information have not been RECEIVED by the due date, WLB considers that you have withdrawn your application. Note the wording of the email is "RECEIVED" and not "ATTENDED". So I assume that should your paperwork go astray or is not completed and forwarded to WLB by the due date the application is deemed to have been withdrawn.

Anyone else run into similar problems?

i guess i was lucky , i had my cat A+B back in my hands in 7 weeks and my 223 pta 3 days before it,
Cat H in 7 weeks ,no pta as yet ,due any day now,it has been issued
imy sympathies for all you fellow shooters out there for those who hav had to wait 3-4 months

i called them weapons licensing twice and found them very willing to help, were never rude once to me etc

Got my 5th .22 PTA within 7 days. 308 still awaiting. Sold 2 of my 308s , one 3 mth ago, and the buyer still hasnt got his.

Dunno what's going on in firearms branch QLD...

The amount of stuff ups are unbelievable.

I think this was in Victoria, not 100% though, I read it here or on a forum somewhere. Anyway...

Other side of the coin for permits and paperwork... the story was one of the guys sold a few of his firearms. All done and dusted, everything transferred through the dealer, paper signed, buyer had the rifles etc. etc.

Seller had a storage inspection a couple of months later and the guys book still said he should have the guns he sold. Got all sorted eventually but in the mean time I guess the buyer could have been up for explaining why he had a safe worth of guns that weren't accounted for as well...

12week wait until someone gets to your file to check it for new applicants then probably 2-3 max weeks until you see it in the mail?

i think so sounds about right from what weapons licence have on their website, will let yous know im at the 12 week mark on the 23rd iv been told to ring and pester them if you dont receive the email on the day of the 12th week, and i think from what iv read seems to be about 3 weeks till the licence arrives

Sweet Im at my 1month mark on the 18th aug so past the 28days so now another 31days till someone checks it and then as you said 3weeks till they send it out already done my 100point ID check on the 3rd day after I put my application in!

how on earth did you manage that most people including myself dont even hear back from them untill after 12 weeks i hope and thats just for the id check its roughly about a 14-15 week process all up give or take. When i rang them the other week to ask a question i was told they werent even up to the date i lodged my application yet which was the 31st of may you must have been extremely lucky.

Not lucky just had all my stuff put in correctly and all documents was supplied and the email said on ential checks i had supplied everything needed so they just put me through I guess! Just waiting on assessment to be completed on my case ID then wait for it in mail thank god my 28days is over!
