He is the President of the USA and it is not his duty to care one iota about how his policies might affect Australia.
His number one duty is to improve the well-being of his united states and in the mean-time, stick one up the CCP whose intent seems to be to gain a world-wide market for their products, the designs of which are often "stolen" from "the west", or marketed at manifestly unrealistic prices.
A simple example - Brno/Norinco: there are many more.
And now, from another thread, Meopta are (apparently) going to move their production to China. Oh, joy - now the prices will come down. Yeh, right; good luck with that.
The latest catchcry. Meaningless, thing to say. Ridiculous. Like many I watch/read the news.
Never said it was his "duty" to care about AU..
But we did have a free trade agreement. That's in the shredder now. Will he abide by other agreements?![]()
"the mean-time, stick one up the CCP ". Well they used tariffs on us because we wanted to investigate COVID. So, in that sense it's good.
But a 145% tariff on goods is a 145% tax on US citizens too. Imports have already dropped by at least 25%. The locals are going to love that. And manufacturers don't set up in a few months it often takes years.

Sounds like capitalism/more profits to me.
Seems like Trumps "marketing" has worked on you.
Have you ever run a company or business before in your life? Negotiating is a part of it all. The strong will always out negotiate the weak. That's just life.
These short term tariffs are all a negotiating tactic that will be better off for the American people.
