Queensland Police Website "upgrade"

Is it just me who finds the new website full of bugs and hard to use?

The Google search results still point to the old URLs which get directed to the new home page, repeating the searches there returns no results so lots of information is no longer available.

Some text has been re-written to favor/excuse poor service from Weapons Licensing like all PTAs now being subject to a 28 day waiting period.

It probably cost a huge amount in tax payer money to move to that terrible new web site.

My exact experience too!

Predictable.

At least we know they are spending our licence and PTA money well! :sarcasm:

For the purpose of PTA application, there is a link to an Instructional Video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ALdY1pYkdk ) which results in a blank screen with the advisory text "Video unavailable. This video is private."
Ummmmmmmmmmm. Which secret society do we have to belong to to get access?

W.R.T. the 28 day waiting period, the Act., s42 (1) refers to the Regs., s101 (2) which still says 28 days, HOWEVER, s101 (3) also still says " ------- the remainder of the day". The Regs have not changed, therefore waiting periods have not changed.

"2. Waiting period
The mandatory waiting period for a PTA is 28 days from the date the application is lodged.

Applicants who do not provide sufficient information or supporting documentation will experience delays in processing or possible rejection of the application."

The legislation hasn't changed so its really only 28 days for the first firearm in any category, I'd guess that the wording is to set expectations and stop people from chasing them when they haven't met their obligations under the act.

rc42, you shouldn't post only a part of the Regulation. That muddies the water a bit.
The Regulation s101 (2) & (3) are very specific.
The 28 day period ONLY applies to the first one, in each category, otherwise, it is the remainder of the day on which the applicant lodged the application for the permit.
It is interesting that the Parliament enacted law that uses the wording Lodged the Application, and not "When sighted by the Authorised Officer"!

Hey 49er,
The text quoted above is not my wording, it's all that is shown of the interpretation of the regulations on the new WLB web site's information page about the PTA process (see the URL). It's WLB that are muddying the waters or at least keeping things vague and reducing expectations of how fast a response should come through.

Interestingly, the regulations don't even mention that the existing firearm under license needs to be in the same category as the one that the PTA application is for, only that 'a firearm' needs to be there. That means no new 28 day period for a Category B if you already hold a Category A.

The one wait per category also seems to be from poorly written summaries of the regulations in the past, I even thought that was the case until recently. It does apply to the first Category H firearms as that is a different license and is not added to the A/B one.

Weapons Regulations 2016
101 Waiting period for decision on application for permit to
acquire
(1) This section prescribes the period for section 42 of the Act.
(2) The period is 28 days after the day the applicant lodged the
application
for the permit to acquire the weapon.
(3) However, the period is the remainder of the day on which the
applicant lodged the application
for the permit, if—
(a) the applicant already holds a firearm under a licence; or
(b) an authorised officer is satisfied there are exceptional
circumstances.

I don't know that it can be any clearer.

I think you are both correct.

49er is quoting the regulations - which are clear
rc42 is quoting the new WLB website - which is ambiguous.

The new websites 'Knowledge centre' article clearly states that the wait time for a PTA is 28 Days.... they don't mention anything further that is set out in the regs. To the uninitiated and or new shooter, this would suggest that any and all PTA's have a minimum 28 day waiting period.

You both get a gold star :)
