Buying a second barrel

Post by Patriot » 20 Sep 2019, 1:14 pm

Considering buying a second barrel for my 12 gauge straight pull.
My question is can it be shorter? At the moment the gun has a 28 inch and I want to get a 20inch.
Second question, is a PTA required?

Thanks all.

If 20" is legal I can't see any problem with it, I bought a 20" for my 28" Dickinson.

Its all going to depend on your states laws re registrations. I have been told in WA they have to serial number each barrel and have that registered. Here in Victoria you could have a shed full and screw them on and off as you like. Some guys do exactly this when the barrel is chambered for specific bullets. or just screwing a new one break it in see how it preforms get it to the golden point then take it off and save it for a special occasion.

I did not think it mattered here in Qld.
As long as the overall length is over 750mm
I guess we can cut our own down as well as long as the OAL is over the 750mm
There is nothing on the PTA application that asks for barrel length, and its not on the weapons list you get either.
