QLD - Re-classify suppressors as Category A Weapons

Post by Macross » 10 Feb 2020, 8:00 am

Posting this link to a petition before the Qld parliament for the reclassification of suppressors to Cat A.

https://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/work- ... ls?id=3282

May be of interest to some Qld shooters.

Reads as follows : -
Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that suppressors have been incorrectly classified as Category R Weapons. A suppressor is a muzzle device that reduces the sound caused by discharging a firearm from a level that causes hearing damage to a level that will not cause hearing damage. A suppressor can be used in addition to PPE and will protect the hearing of the firearm user and of those in the immediate vicinity. A suppressor does not silence a gunshot as portrayed in the movies. It merely reduces the sound level. In this day and age we should be doing more to protect the hearing of law abiding members of the community who enjoy recreational shooting.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to re-classify suppressors as Category A weapons in the legislation Weapons Categories Regulation 1997. Suppressors are currently classified as Category R weapons which is for machine guns, hand grenades, bazookas, rocket launchers and land mines etc. However, a suppressor is an inert object that is incapable of causing harm and in fact reduces harm and does not belong in Category R which is for weapons of war.

I would say ALL Queensland shooters.
Even if it's something they have no particular desire to own or use, at least we should ALL sign the petition and show that there is support to repeal a draconian piece of law which seems to exist only because politicians believe in fairly stories.

Mate I have signed, just as I did for the petition to allow hunting on public land.
Historically the Labour QLD government is opposed to anything firearms related.
Fingers crossed mate.

This is just very disappointing and extremely frustrating. I feel that the only way to get action on this is to change the government come next election.
Sound suppressors, in Qld. are lumped into the same classification as Machine guns, Rocket Launchers and LAND MINES!

This is the type of crap that we have to deal with.

We have judges/magistrates making wild and unsupported claims with no challenges or comeback.

For anybody who is interested in sound moderators, go to this link and download the report from Edith Cowan University, NSW, which is somewhat revealing.
You decide, but it's well worth the time to read, and save/distribute. (edit - additional info') For the Conclusion of the report, jump straight to p58, and especially the last sentence on p60.

If the govt allows us to have new things they know there will be part of the population screaming at them afterwards. They would not be looking fwd to helping us if they knew it would cause them grief

No, I'm not going to rant on about the reasons people like the magistrate that stated the only reason you would fit a silencer to a rifle is because you want to shoot somebody or the member of parliament that compared a silencer to a train in that you can hear a train coming but a rifle fitted with a silencer, you could not hear and would not know that a person is there. So that's why she voted against it.
Of course you can hear a train coming, not to mention a crossing is equipped with flashing lights, very loud ringing bells and boon gates! Has she looked at the noise dampening gear of bloody big diesel engines?
Heaven help her when electric cars become more popular, 'cauce they make very little noise! What is she going to do; fit the cars out with flashing light and bells?
For heavens sake even the stuffy British hunters are permitted to use moderators and New Zealand hunters are encouraged too and no licence is required!
What about Work Place Health and Safety re hearing loss.
No, I'm not going to rant!

Every QLD shooter needs to ask there mother, father, sister, brother, wife, husband, cousin, boyfriend, girlfriend, children, friend and whoever else over 18 to sign this petition. Every shooter surely knows dozens if not a hundred people.
