QLD Audit Office - Auditing Regulation of Firearms

I just happened across this on the Queensland Audit Office Upcoming Audits page...

https://www.qao.qld.gov.au/audit-program/regulating-firearms

A good time to convince them that the firearms registry is not effective, does not reduce gun thefts, is not worth the cost and does nothing to enhance community safety.

The registry is a list of who owns what type of firearm and where it is stored, its purpose is to assist with the next wave of confiscations when it happens, it has never been about community safety. In fact its only obvious use would be to allow a recovered stolen firearm to be returned to its rightful owner but I doubt that has ever happened.

Even with the income from the PTA charges it's a giant hole for public money to be poured into, the financial stress on all levels of government post covid will create the greatest ever pressure to get rid of it.
