So here's what's happening I was a a farm manager on my dads farm and was licensed for cat c occupational on that farm.
I now own my own farm and don't really need the cat c anymore transferring it seems to be a pain in the azz because requirements etc.all change.
Considering how far behind they claim to be with applications for new licences and ptas got me to thinking how long will it take them to process my application to go from cat c to cat b

First off Untrue, that cat c 12g saved my ass from pigs on more than one occasion, when a mob runs at you its more about stopping the ones getting too close than killing the lot, nothing stops better than field load at short range.

Secondly the first farm was over 300 acres this one is only 90 so justification while not hard isn't as easy either and to be honest I just don't have the time to do all the paperwork.

Third I just wanted to see if they really were as backed up as they say

Finally if they drop cat c they'd have to dump the guns into either cat b or d primary producers can get d any way but genuine need would be easier (a win for farmers) or cat b all shooters would get pump shotguns and semi 22lr back (a win for shooters) don't either of those happening anytime soon

I think you guys competed missed the point I was making. The op said that he doesn't need it any more.
The government has proved they will take your guns if they choose and if they go through the register and see no one is applying for category c licences any more they may decide to not issue them any more and either slowly phase them out or just have another buy back.

Wow didn't expect this thread to blow up into a full blown argument. Can we all calm down?

Just an update:
1st call to weapons licensing went something along the lines of: "do you possess any cat c guns? You must hand them in immediately to the nearest police station now you've told me of your change, the police at the station will tell you what to do".

I hung up laughed for a bit and decided to visit the station (without my guns) was promptly told that some people who worked at wlq were wound way too tight and I should call back.

2nd call: "OK so do it would probably be better to change from uc to pp so you only need to renew every 10 years a rates notice or deed and proof of primary production is all you'll need, you'd have to prove the property had a significant feral population to warrant cat c so if you are happy to not do that it's fine just ensure to take your guns to a dealer to have them form 10'd first otherwise we'll have to send police to collect them and they'll be destroyed rather than sold, I'll email you the details."

Will get it done in the next couple of days.
