2 weeks for a PTA in Qld

Post by jovialjosie2002 » 05 Apr 2025, 11:09 am

Hi All,
I put my PTA in for a sxs 12gauge on 18th March and it only took 2 weeks to be approved. Is this a sign of tough times???? No one is buying guns??? I've noticed that my local gun store in the gabba has dropped prices on many of the guns on the shelf and I've been there when people bring in guns to sell and the shop just says things like " we'll put this one on the shelf, but not the other 4" Furthermore, they've got some great stuff on the shelf for reasonable prices and they don't appear to be moving.

May actually be because no one has any money.. you know, massive inflation, housing crisis, cost of living etc etc...

I put in a PTA for what I needed to get.
Shortly afterwards I got an email asking for "reason/s" why I was after a third firearm of the same action and caliber.

My reply was sent back ASAP,,, giving very valid reasons,, as well as photos to verify my needs.

Even with the interjectory query on WLB's behalf, I recieved my PTA shortly afterwards.
From the initial lodgement of PTA through till taking possession,,,,,,, total elapsed time was the shortest I've ever experienced.

I believe that WLB have gone through some changes (for the better) and the current service is something to be applauded.
They have no choice but to work under legislation that demands certain questions and checks to be made.
I do not fear death itself... Only its inopportune timing!
And,,,,It's been proven,,,,, the most trustworthy females in my entire life were all canines.

that all sounds quite reasonable to me . can you tell me what calibre your pta was for ? im' under the impression that larger calibers are coming under more scrutiny these days . 308, 30-06 , ect

It was for a 308 Mate.
I had two already.

One is a collectors piece and unfired, which is never to be taken out hunting so long as I own it.

My 2nd is set up specifically for thermal hunting and zeroed accordingly to specific hand loads.

I needed another one set up for day useage only,, and because I can get called out for dog eradication at any day or night, the change over hassles were a real head f@#k not to mention costing time and money.

Just over a year ago I had another one already,,,,, but sold it thinking that I could get by with just the one for hunting.
But now discovered otherwise.
They (WLB) could see that I had that extra one,, and the date that I'd sold it,, so those records stood me in good stead.

Get a collectors licence and put this collectable 308 on it. What was your genuine reason for obtaining it? Sports and target or recreation? Be careful about providing false and misleading information. These never before used sections of the act are now starting to pop up.

Guns you don't want to use in the field are better on collector licences as this is there purpose.
