If its your first one then you're looking at 4-6 weeks at the moment, my brother just got his first one after a 5 week wait here in QLD. Mine usually take about one week, sometimes a little more or a little bit less. Unless you're trying to acquire something that requires further justification. eg .338 Lap, .408 CT etc.
What are you looking at getting?

Just a lever action 22 should have to wait too long because they have revived the notice of disposal from my first firearm

My last one I put in at 10:30....I was damn well furious, I had to WAIT UNTIL 2:30!!!

sorry, had to do it  yes, its VIC, land of the 'as good as it gets' firearm licensing wise....

But considering we in VIC have recently been blessed  with the return of the commie government (AKA the Reds, AKA the socialists, AKA Labor party, AKA did they really vote for these tools) ; Lets see how long it takes them to start 'fixing' the firearms licensing regime in VIC, speaking of which, I heard a rumor that you guys in sunny/windy QLD also got a recent bout of the 'reds' :drinks:

Man you weren't kidding, got the first pre-approval on the 24th and the second one yesterday. Now I have to camp around the mailbox waiting for the physical copies to show up, guess that'll take another week.

Everywhere just needs to get on the VIC system having them submitted online so they just hit the button and it goes back in a few hours.

Reality, it's in the Act/Regs. WLB wants everything to go though them directly and so bulls#%t everyone into believing that is what you have to do.

So how do you obtain a PTA in one day when you have to go through the WLB for it to be approved. A tad lost on this one.

No sarcasm. The Act/Regs do not specify that you have to apply to WLB directly for a PTA, or that PTAs are only to be issued by WLB, for example;
38 Issue etc. of permits to acquire
(1) A person, other than an authorised officer, must not issue, endorse or alter a permit to acquire.

41 Inquiries into application
(1) Before the application is decided, an officer in charge of police or authorised officer with whom an application for a permit to acquire is lodged may—

56 Waiting period for decision on application for permit to acquire
(1) This section prescribes the period for section 42 of the Act.
(2) The period is 28 days after the day the applicant lodges the application for the permit to acquire the weapon.
(3) However, if—
(a) the applicant already holds a firearm under a licence; or
(b) an authorised officer is satisfied there are exceptional circumstances; the period is the remainder of the day on which the applicant lodges the application for the permit.

The question you need to ask is 'Who is an authorised officer'. The answer to that is also in the Act/Regs, you just need to look.
