Qld just recieved licence and no pta

Post by AZZA'S HJ47 » 25 Jan 2016, 6:38 pm

Ok so it has been a long drawn out process for reasons beyond my control. I was under the impression that i would have recieved my pta with my licence that arrived in the mail today. Unfortunately not the case any advise would be greatly appreciated

If it works the same as NSW then your 28 day waiting period for your first PTA started the day they issued your licence. So you can expect your PTA to trail about 30 or so days behind your licence once you allow for processing time and postage

Have you tried giving WLB a call? They are usually very helpful once you have explained everything, personally have never had an issue with them

Azza, the PTA is always sent separate to the licence. May just take a few extra days.

Yep, Licence first and then PTA - 28 days cooling off period applies. The PTA should take up to 2 weeks/10 working days to arrive after Licence. If you haven't received it by them, suggest you give WLB a courteous phone call.

It would appear that I have to wait a further 28 days for my pta. I spoke to "Peter" from weapons Licencing last Wednesday 27th and asked Politely how much longer I have to wait. " Its in the Pipeline". Am I the only one that seems to be getting screwed around by weapons licencing or is this the norm. think I've spoke to them 3 times and to tell you the truth after talking to them I think even less of them then I did before I called. Nobody wants to answer without giving a take the piss response to a question. quickly approaching the 9 month point. :unknown:

I applied for my PTA 2 days after I applied for my license. It took a ridiculous 5 months to get the license approved so I feel your pain. I called WLB and I got the impression it got lost in the system cause it was approved 3 hours after I called them.

Stupid thing is my PTA arrived before my license so I had a piece of paper saying I could buy a rifle but not plastic saying I could own it.

Good news is once you've been through the first PTA the second is much quicker.

Best of luck.

Thanks Kato
Like i said over the crap all the crap that i have to give them for my security licence i would have thought would have helped them, they have my fingerprints and i also have had numerous criminal history checks for work. All done online and still the drawn out waitting periods

I'm told that the licences are outsourced to a private company and the permits are printed at weapons licensing.

Call and talk to their permit folks as they might be working through the list of issued licensees.

received a letter today stating that my PTA will be approved after I have had a safe inspection. Progress is slow but slowly getting somewhere.

Azza, I have never heard of that condition precedent to issuing a PTA before. You are definitely getting the full treatment.

Sorry to rub it in, but here in Vic I sent my gun license and PTA forms together. Received my license about 5 weeks after and PTA around 3-4 days after I had paid for my license (which was the day I got it) and bought my first rifle that afternoon and went hunting that night

Maybe I'm missing something...... But I don't see the bit about having to have a safe inspection first.

Ah... I've figured out what you mean....

"Quality Assurance Checks" does not mean safe inspection - it means they are just doing some sort of QA to check the PTA is OK to issue. (That's my guess!)

Hi I submitted my application and PTA on the 01/09/19, proof of identity was completed 01/10/19 ,
It is now 30/10/19 and still waiting. Anyone have recent licence received in QLD and how long was the wait.
In the email i received after submitting it said not to contact them until 12 weeks had elapsed.
