Shooting in NSW with Victorian license

Post by cobber » 17 Jun 2014, 12:34 pm

Can I shoot in NSW?

I have a VIC shooters licence and will be doing a stop over in a NSW forest during my trip, most of the day will be targets ( bottle tops hanging from string ), but if a bunny pops up I'd like to be able to shoot it.

I've just got off the phone to the police at Deniliquin ( hope that's spelt right ) and they couldn't give me an answer. Also tried Moama, same result. Hope someone can point me in the right direction

Thanks in advance.

I think WA is the only state that doesnt automatically recognise out of state licenses Cobber. I could be wrong but it was that way last time I checked, even though they CAN accept an out of state license your better off rolling up to the first WA cop shop you come to and applying for a temp license, which from memory ( I think ) is / was about $160. But in your case unless the vlokes here know off by heart, best to call the NSW licensing branch rather than a cop shop, cos they will say they dont know and then bust you on it later.

Be aware with this there is some interstate license recognition, but it's not done by all states.

Off the top of my head I think NSW, VIC, QLD all recognise each others licenses. Other states do not?

Just FYI if you travel elsewhere in the future.

edit: sorry, glossed over where Mecca had started on this already.

I don't know if this is law or recommended... I read somewhere ages ago you are supposed to notify the destination state of your visit.

Is that right?

Mmm, ok for comps, carry and private land but not hunting in state forrest. There are additional requirement for that. Someone from nsw should be able to provide the details.

You need Department of Primary Industries Restricted Game Licence but it doesn't end there.

You also have to complete the tests on line to be accredited and be able then to download the map set you need for the forest you want to shoot in.

You are now required to carry a GPS and carry with you all the necessary authority and paperwork. You need to complete the harvest sheets and send them in otherwise you wont be able to log in next time.
