How many rifles of the same caliber?

Just wondering how many CAT B rifles of the same calibre you can have on your licence without needing to justify it? Heard online that in vic we’re restricted to two of the same calibre before we have to justify why our previous rifles can’t fulfil the intended job. Wondering if this is true or not as I hadn’t heard of any restrictions of the amount of firearms owners based on them being the same calibre before. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Nothing stated in law. Pure policy dictated by the authorised officer issuing the PTA. So just keep applying for your permits and get poetic with your genuine needs.

I'm not sure there is such a restriction. I have five in 8x57mm and wasn't asked any questions. However, once you exceed 15 CatB firearms you will be asked to clarify why your existing collection can't be used to fulfill whatever purpose you want to use the new firearm for.

been told by a couple of different gun shops up here in QLD they will question why you need a third (or more) in the same caliber . just what i've been told . . i trust the sources .

I have 5 .300 rifles, Cat B. And 8 .308's, Cat B & D. That's just in .30 cal, and doesn't include the 30/30's. When I think about it, I suppose it's not so strange given the current ant-gun future we're facing that my last few PTA's have resulted in please explain letters.

I moved most of my guns that I don't want to shoot to my collector licence. Makes it easier that way.
So my firearms licence is just the ones I shoot often.

I want a dealer licence so I can buy guns through the business and just keep like for like swapping from my dealer licence to my personal licence as I want. No need for PTAs that way.

They have recently (last couple of years) started asking for genuine need to own 3 of any particular calibre in centrefire, rifle or handgun. Cat A not affected. There is no limit on how many you can own provided you can justify the need, as I shoot competition I can find many genuine need reasons and like bladeracer have several in 303, 8x57, 7x57, etc.

that correlates to what i've been told . so long as you can give a reasonable reason i've not heard of anyone being knocked back . when i first got my licence about 10 years ago i was asked why i needed two 6.5x55 . one was a crf model 70 for hunting/target shooting , the other was a milsurp husky for service rifle . they were satisfied with that answer

Target (iron sights)
Target (Scope, "F class)
Lightweight hunter.
Picked up bargain for upcoming son to have when he gets licence.
Previous one in this cal beyond economical repair.
All true reasons.
