Rapid Review of Victoria’s Firearm Laws

It looks like VIC is reviewing laws to decide if they should bring in similar restrictions to the ones NSW did. Below is the scope but there are more details in the document.

The final report is to be delivered in March 2026.

Scope;
On 17 December 2025, the Police Ministers' Council agreed to establish a Senior Officials Group (SOG) to develop options and consult on nationally consistent reforms, including:
• accelerating work to stand up the National Firearms Register
• allowing for expanded use of criminal intelligence to underpin firearms licensing decisions within
administrative licensing regimes
• limiting the number of firearms that may be held by any one individual
• limiting open-ended firearms licensing and restricting the types of firearms that are legal, including modifications
• introducing Australian citizenship as a condition of holding a firearms licence.

There are a huge list of stuff they are looking at and they specifically mention bringing legislation into like with other states;
• NSW legislation that was introduced to the NSW Parliament on Monday 22 December 2025 has
now been passed.
• best practices from other Australian and international jurisdictions, ensuring jurisdictional
consistency and alignment
• the need to balance 'best practice' with the desirability for national consistency in firearms
regulation.

I think it would be in everyone’s best interest to make a submission.

A report may well be produced in a timely manner.
Typically the Allan government will then sit on it, and do nothing until after the election in November.
Then if they win implement in full or go for the NSW model regardless of the report, which will then probably never see the light of day.
OR
Lose, wipe their hands of the whole thing on the basis that it is now not their problem, and smiling while they hand all their problems to the next government.

If you make online submission it's faster. However if you download word document fill it out and then upload it, it counts as a second submission.

If you do from another computer and repeat its four submissions. If you get the wife to log on then its 8 submissions.

It will be bad this is just a show to try and put the little Minions minds at rest to think that they got a fair deal yeah only have to look at what's going on a labour village idiot is prime minister another one is Premier of Victoria if she even thinks of holding back anything they will just hold back state funding and I don't think we have seen the end of it for Queensland yet

Might be a good time to write an email to Vic Lib leader ([email protected] ) also all the nationals MP's and live rent free in their heads whilst they are out on the campaign trail.
