It does.
Laws vary greatly between states, so always make sure you're asking/reading about the right place.
e.g. in WA empty brass is considered "live ammunition" and not securing it is an office.
A few empty cases in the back seat is no problem in Victoria, drive into WA and get pulled over and you're potentially in trouble.

Q. 2) is little river range busy? Can I just rock up on a Saturday morning and sit there and shoot all day? Do you have to wait?
Q. 3) how do most of you transport your firearm in the car?
Thanks for all the help.
1) Day trip, just keep it with you at all times of course. If staying the night I would keep the firearm in my room (trigger locked, bagged, ammo/bolt in lock box) etc. and be aware of people you're sharing with. As you know it's illegal to allow an unlicensed person access to a firearm.
If you're going for days at a time, or want to go out you would need a safe installed. You can't leave it unattended and not locked up in another house just because you're visiting. If you're leaving it unattended it needs to go in the safe.
2) It can be full and require a wait.
If you get there early though there is always space and there is no time slot on benches. Once you're on shoot as long as you like.
3) Bagged, ammo in locked receptacle, and completely hidden from sight.
