Victorian Airsoft Petition

Post by Keystroke » 13 Aug 2019, 11:11 am

Not sure if this has been posted here before but searching the site didn't turn up this one.
An e-petition for the Parliament of Victoria has been made to legalise airsoft equipment, costs nothing to sign but must be a Victorian resident.
I really hope this passes, it closes on the 11/9.

Or just skip the chaff and sign the petition https://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/council/petitions/electronic-petitions/view-e-petitions/details/12/118?fbclid=IwAR0v-FmAiSqQdq66Dvn0bv9iQ4CeqANND2zIPHRrnRxwNDgocFEfe89q8xw

Good luck with that after the Canadian shootings. All over the news how they used to play airsoft in the forest

I'm not the one running it, just really want airsoft to be legalised and trying to spread it around.
I can't find anything on recent Canadian shootings, and that doesn't mean we shouldn't try. Links?

I signed it, but in the current climate, good luck. Queensland and South Australia have a shot. The rest of the states have no chance. Would mean amending appearance laws. Maybe if they had Airsoft that looked like paintball guns, but then that would probably be lame. Or bolt action, lever action only, again lame.

Completely pointless, sorry.

Not only is airsoft considered not toys but firearms and legislative change would have to amended via the National Firearms Agreement ie Federally so there is nothing the Victorian Parliament could do even if it wanted to....it would have to come from the Federal Parliament and all States would have to sign off on it. Yeah, buckleys.

And also not only that, shooting organisation like the SSAA are firmly against airsoft due to their not unreasonable suspicion that Govts would say "Well you've got airsoft, you don't need "real" guns, do you?"

Third not only that, all States and Territories Police Forces would have to recommened airsofts legalisation to State and the Federal Govt...hahaha, no.

You are NEVER going to get authority in this country to shoot at people with airsoft indistinguishable from military firearms. Look at paintball (which are also legally firearms of course) the only way you can have paintball skirmish here is precisely becaues markers can't be mistaken for real firearms. And must only be shot at approved fields.

Anyone who thinks we will ever have amateur woodsball/WW2 reenactment with airsoft here (like the UK) is just kidding themselves.

Airsoft is currently illegal in Australia, and that is what we are trying to change. It isn't the sport itself that is the problem, it is the guns. Paintball guns are completely legal in Australia, even though the projectiles are much larger and shoot more than 10 times faster than Airsoft BB guns. https://www.ebay.com.au/usr/tacticaledgeau
