How common are Cat C licenses?

Post by JC102 » 25 Feb 2014, 12:53 am

I know there are very few Cat D license holders out there, but I was wondering how common Cat C licenses are. Would I be wrong in assuming that the majority of farmers with bigger properties would be eligible for a Cat C license? Would anyone have an idea on the number of semi-autos/pump action shotguns that are legally owned?

Thanks.

That's the gist of it.

Cat C for primary production only (with a few exceptions...). AKA farmers.

No idea on numbers though. Perhaps something like that is in some firearms licensing statistics report or something? Dunno who has such a thing though...

Failing that, how many properties are zoned for it.

Each active property is likely to have 1. Bit of a semi-educated guess but it would give you a number.

If you are a Primary Producer (Farmer/Grazier) it's not that hard to get a Category C Licence. Of those I know that have Firearms I would say 50% of them have a Category C Licence the others really didn't bother to submit the paperwork as what they have does the required job.

I have a Category C Licence but at present not a Category C Firearm as I simply don't have a current use for one.

Do the police publish this kind of stuff?

Not identifiable details obviously, but I know the post figures for court outcomes and charged offences and other statistical information like that.

Wonder if there is anywhere with number of licenses issued and firearms permitted?

Thanks for the answers. I heard that you can only have one semi-auto, is that true?

Don't know about Victoria. I'd suggest you look up the regulations / fact sheets.

In NSW you are permitted to have one only of the sub categories. One Self-Loading Rimfire and one of either a Pump-Action or Self-Loading Shotgun. Not forgetting that the storage requirements are much stricter, trigger locks are required during transport, licence holder use only and not for use other than the registered location/s. You can't go hunting or whatever anywhere else than what has been notified.

I had a VIC cat C licence, got it just after the steal-back, unfortunately a bit late to save my semi 12g..... It wasnt overly difficult to obtain provided you can demonstrate the primary production involvement and size of farm enterprise.
I understand its 1 firearm per category C/D licence...

I may apply again, could use a fast shooting shotty...

Yep, only 1 per category is the way I understand it too.

Even when they let you have them they don't let you
