Gday all,

Expecting my license payment notice to arrive in the next few days and just wondering if after making payment it can be used as a temporary license until i get my photo license issued?

Simple answer is NO mate.

You need the plastic licence to be legal.

That will take 7-10 working days after receipt of payment

And then you’re good to go

I don't think that advice is correct.

In fact, I think on the piece of paper, it actually says that it is to be used and is valid prior to receiving your plastic.

Actually in Victoria Denno is correct. At the bottom of you payment slip it says

"This payment notice in NOT an intrim licence/registration or permit." NOT underlined

You are absolutely correct, I just had a look at my renewal slips from May last year (both A&B also H).

Received my payment notice in the mail yesterday and made payment and had the photo done, how long is it usually until PTA is received? I submitted it along with my license application but didn't receive any confirmation of it being entered into the system.

It will probably already show on the electronic system. a gun shop should be able to see it. Some may sell a gun to you with that other will make you wait. You should see it within a week.

Vic used to say that it could be used as a temporary license once stamped but now they've added the NOT in there.

Stupid, because with license renewals your old license expiry doesn't count if LRD have received your paperwork (clause they put in because they get backed up at times and are unable to process renewal licenses in a timely manner) - so apparently having an expired license is OK if they have your paperwork there (which isn't easily verifiable) - but having a stamped / paid receipt on your license renewal paperwork when you get it is not.

I suspect that it is related to being able to now BPay the payments. That is it would no longer necessarily be stamped, and BPay may well be the LRD preferred option.
