How's everyone tracking? (PTA wise)

Questions about Victorian gun and ammunition laws. Victorian Firearms Act 1996.

How's everyone tracking? (PTA wise)

Post by TheFirearmEnthusiast » 27 May 2020, 6:55 pm

Hey guys

I hope that everyone is well

I submitted a PTA on Tuesday the 12th of May
(The day that Victoria Police announced that they would resume processing PTA's - post the lockdown)

It was a brand new PTA

It's been a little over 2x weeks now
And I haven't heard anything back yet
(My PTA hasn't been processed yet)

I'm just wondering how everyone is tracking with their PTA's?

Submitted my PTA on the 13th of May.
Nothing as of yet.
My local said Firearms Licencing are 99% done with the backlog from a couple of months ago, so if we're lucky, it'll be this week, if not, it'll be early next week IMO.

Ah okay

If they're nearly done with the backlog
That's good news then

That means that we're getting closer to being back to normal again then
(regarding PTA wait times)

I put in my PTA on the 14th of may and still haven't heard anything. I have an envelope full of cash sitting in my locker at work in the off chance the shop call me and say my permit has come and I can come pick up the gun.
I ordered a hand guard from the US a few days after I did the permit and its looking like that will be here before my permit comes in.

You've just made my day
God Bless You haha
I've been waiting so long for that PTA lol
- Had to wait for the lockdown to end
(Which we had no idea when that was gonna end)
- Had to wait for perhaps the "state of emergency" to end
(Which we had no idea how long Daniel Andrews would keep the state of emergency in place)
- Had to wait for them to process the backlog
(Which we didn't really know how long that was gonna take too)
We were just all in the dark so much
It's been terrible
I got told by one store also that it was only 1x person processing thousands and thousands of PTA's
That store told me it could've taken 4x weeks!

Finally some good news lol

Congrats mate. Did you send LRD an email to chase it up or did they automatically send you an email once the PTA was approved?

I put mine in on the 14th so here's hoping the shop call me tomorrow and tell me to come pick up my new gun because the permit has come in.

I just get a text from my gun shop, once the PTA shows up as approved on their system.

No point following up - LRD will process in date order, which is really the correct thing to do.

Happy days!

I have my order in with my local dealer paid for in full.

Once it arrives, expected in the later part of June, possibly into July, I will then put in my PTA, which I fully expect to be approved and issued.

The last one, while approved just prior to the lockdown, no dealer could supply, as such it expired during the closures. So I changed my order and my dealer to one that could supply and gave me support through the process.

Spewing about the expiry mate. QLD ones last for 6 months at $40.50 a piece. So the costs add up quick if you do several at a time but at least you can keep them up your sleeve for awhile.

Mate mine still hasn't been processed and it was lodged 2 weeks before the restrictions came into effect (mid March). It was meant to be processed in the priority list before any new PTA submitted after restrictions were lifted. Clearly this doesn't appear to be the case.

It's really confusing how they process PTA's....

I thought they'd process them in a "date" order
(Whoever applied for a PTA 1st would get their PTA processed 1st kind of thing)
That would make sense to me ^

But that doesn't seem to be what they do

I know people who applied for their pta's AFTER me, yet their pta got processed and mine hasn't yet

I also know other people who applied for their PTA's on the same day as me, theirs also didn't get processed yet

I really wonder the order in which they process PTA's....

Maybe they process them by region?
(Where people live)
Maybe in alphabetical order?
(People's last names)
Maybe in numerical order?
(The license numbers)

The rail I ordered from the US arrived before my PTA even though I put the permit in a few days earlier.
