Shooters license for permanent resident? Non-citizen?

Post by whert » 15 Mar 2014, 6:26 am

Hi guys,

A mate of mine is from the US and has been a permanent resident here for years, but hasn't done his citizenship.

I couldn't see anything on the license form about it. I guess it's no problem?

So no citizenship needed for shooting license?

Thanks.

I had a look at the NSW licencing requirements - if Vic is the same then your friend my have trouble meeting the 100pts requirements which may stop him. there are guest permits available but they are for temp visitors.

100pts is for proving his identity, if he cant do that then its not only a FA licence he should be worried about..

In VIC if you're a resident and not prohibited and can demonstrate a 'need'; then a licence must be issued by the CC

If it doesn't say on the license application form I guess that's your answer.

You don't need citizenship, only residence.

I have a mate from the US who's been living here in Victoria for 12 years or something and is not a citizen, but is a permanent resident.

He has his shooting license.

I moved over from the UK 7 years ago but haven't got round to getting my citizenship yet but I have been and got my Vic A/B firearms license you shouldn't have any problems as long as you get the 100 points and the reference but before you get your license you will need to get your stalkers license in my case or get any other reason to own a firearm sorted out, once this is done just apply like anybody who is a citizen
Hope his helps

I knew a number of exchange students from Australia going to college here, Oklahoma State University, they had guns while here, including semi auto rifles and "short barreled" handguns. They took their bolt action rifles home with them but had to sell the autos and handguns when they left.
I've been asked: "How many guns do you need to have?" My answer remains the same: "One more."
