Hello,

Probably a dumb question but I can't find the information anywhere but if you have a gun license in Victoria do you need to get one in Perth aswell? thanks

G'day chickenjoe,
Yes, WA is the only State that does not recognize interstate licences, Cheers.

and......WA has the old Labor lot back in again, so me thinks this kind of thinking will be around for a few more years.

G'day Bugman,
Would not matter a "rats" as this was Law when the Libs were in as well, and given the political history of Western Australia it was most likely enacted by a Liberal Govt and not the Labour mob. Cheers

WA recognizes your interstate licence, but not you interstate firearm registrations. So you are licenced while in WA. But in WA you can't borrow a firearm unless you co-licence it with the owner. You can use somebody else's firearms in their company if you are licenced for the same categories, and you can shoot at ranges as a licenced person.

If you want to take your non-WA licenced firearms into WA you must get a temporary permit. The permit is $63 per month for three months max, and can only be renewed once.

I see your in Vic.
Leaving interstate can be tricky. The storage requirements vary a bit for each state. So you need to be careful. If your keen you can but IMO not worth the trouble unless there is a good reason. (e.g. comps)
Add to this the complex hunting regulations and very little public land hunting.

I'm retired and have a van. I wanted to travel interstate and take a firearm with me to perhaps do a little hunting. I've now more or less dropped the idea unless its a pre-planned hunt.

Storage requirements don't apply when you're away from home, they only apply at your place of storage.

Storage for traveling do. And each state varies. Unless u have good reason, to me at least not worth the hassle.

Pretty easy to stuff up and lose everything.
