Fellas, is it legal to buy a custom leather gun sling online from the US, as in without the B709 import thing?

Yep, although if it's something really specific it might be caught by ITAR.

Just to be clearer, ITAR is to try to prevent illegal arms proliferation, so if you were ordering a sling specifically designed for an air-to-air missile system it might get stopped, but rifle slings should be just fine.

The issue with getting stuff out of the US nowadays is the ridiculous postage charges. Check Ebay first.

Further to Blade's advice, may I suggest looking in Britain as the exchange rate is at an historically low level and benefits the Australian buyer, also shipping for some reason is better than US.
