Firearm licence for not a citizen person.

Questions about Victorian gun and ammunition laws. Victorian Firearms Act 1996.

Firearm licence for not a citizen person.

Post by MRadd » 30 Oct 2023, 2:54 pm

Hello,
Just a quick question: if a person, who has no AU citizenship or PR status (living and working in VIC for 10 years as a student and now as a qualified professional), is able to get a firearm license?
Thank you

Thanks a lot,
This permit is for International Visitors who wish to come to AU for a short period or specific event.
In my case - the person has a valid long-term visa to stay in AU. If he is eligible for A\B licence in VIC? AFAIK NZ citizens are getting their AU A\B licences even if they never have one in NZ.

I think you need to email Firearms and ask them.
I just did a firearm licence application for my grandson. It's possible a Junior licence is different but I found an older application online and it's not substantially different. I can't see anything about being from elsewhere, but you must be resident in Vic. Lodge an application and see what happens.

Prerequisite is resident. Black and white is how they will see it.

You can get a lawyer and persist. Resident in some circumstances may not necessarily mean permanent resident. Probably a taxation loophole though.

We can vote on you if you want.
I vote yes.
Unless you’re Chinese then I vote no.

What about a Chinaman born here from Chinese parents? He count? You know, someone like Australia's best ever ANZAC sniper?

Pretty much womble said, the prerequisite is ordinarily resident of Victoria, without commissioner approval.

Ordinarily resident means a permanent resident visa holder or citizen.
