Open range shooting during FDP

Post by MRadd » 07 Feb 2025, 1:49 pm

Hello everyone,
Unable to find any information if shooting on the open range during the Fire Restrictions are in force (Fire Danger Period) is banned or allowed by the local councils.
Can I hunt in the state forest during that period? (not during the Total Fire Ban of course)
Thank you

Yes, interesting qn. I have tried to find out myself.

I may well be corrected. But my understanding is that the regulations are "silent" on the matter.

Obviously, take due care.

It is the CFA that sets the restrictions not local councils.

As far as restrictions go;

FDP
The CFA lists restricted activities and rules when carrying out these activities during the FDP, hunting is not listed as a restricted activity.

TFB
Hunting is also not listed as a restricted activity during a TFB day however i recall a CFA commander warning us during a training session one day that a fire caused from any ignition source will find you liable.

No idea, but I wouldn't use blackpowder.

That is precisely my understanding.

And, yes BP is notorious.

Hot windy days are far from being ideal for hunting anyway.
