I have just joined my local pistol club, and I have applied for my provisional licence that I am waiting to be approved while counting down the six months until I can apply for my full licence. However, I noticed this on the VicPol website tonight.
> You may apply for a general category handgun licence if:
> you have been a member of an approved handgun shooting club for at least 6 months
> OR
> held a provisional general category handgun licence
> and
> have your application endorsed by your approved handgun shooting club
> have had fingerprints taken for the purpose of firearm licensing
> Prerequisites
• Completed 5 approved handgun target shooting matches.
• A member of an approved handgun target shooting club for at least
6 months prior to submitting an application (exempt from 6 month
membership requirement if coming from interstate with a current
licence for the same firearm category and genuine reason).
• Completed a firearm safety course within the 12 months prior to
applying.
Note: If immediately prior to applying for this licence the applicant
held a current 'Provisional General Category Handgun Licence' they
could meet all the prerequisites listed above
Am I right in reading that the six month timeframe can be waived as soon as I recieve my provisional licence? I have already passed the safety course and gotten my fingerprints taken (for the second time
Cheers.
