Airsoft guns and junior license

Post by mikor » 08 Jul 2014, 9:00 am

Hi guys,

I've searched as best I can but couldn't find anything, can the kids get an airsoft gun on a junior license?

Just looking for something for them to hunt some paper with and have some cheap fun.

Haven't seen them in any stores but can't find any licensing info either so not sure what the deal is?

Thanks in advance.

Nerf. At this time air soft guns are illegal in oz afaik. In fact handgun associations have opposed them in fear that if they became legal that their appearance could draw more negative press for the handgun sports and also because it could in their minds give more reason to ban centerfire handguns as training tools. I heard this from an acquaintance who has been a long time pistol official.

Also the last thing we need is a bunch of high school kids shooting air soft guns around train stations on muck up day. Particularly if they look like ak47's and ar15's

I think an airsoft pistol would make an excellent training alternative to centerfire pistols for IPSC or prac pistol but I see how they would see the air soft sport as a threat

Current paint ball laws mean markers are subject to safe storage laws and can only be fired in approved ranges. I would imagine airsoft would be subject to the same crap if it were introduced

Illegal mate. There's a big push to legalise them for recreational use like target shooting and organised skirmish events.

And what they look like is irrelevant, they are a toy and should be treated as such. A baseball bat will definitely look threatening if used in a threatening manner, and the same can be said of nearly any object so that is a moot point.

And as far as I'm aware countries that have them legalised have seen no explosion in armed robberies or shootings, in fact recreationally they have been hugely successful and fun just like paintball. So there's more fear mongering done by our government to get in the way of them being legalised, and unfortunately most people believe it.

"shootings" with a BB gun

*News flash! Since the legalisation of BB guns mums have seen a drastic increase of finding bits of plastic in their kids pockets as a result of shootings.*

Illegal.

Here is the word from VIC Police for you.

Licensing & Regulation Division (LRD) will not provide permits to acquire air-soft rifles. This is on the basis that no genuine reason exists to own them, because there is no approved range in Victoria to undertake these war games. Their militaristic appearance also plays a part in their perceived undesirability.

LRD will not issue a B709A Import Permit for air-soft rifles, which is consistent with all other jurisdictions. Consequently, Australian Customs and Border Protection Services do not allow their importation at this time.

Junior license and an air rifle is going to be the closest option for you.

They're crazy for it in the states.

Just need to check out some of the YouTube videos of their comps to see how much they get into it.

For all the gear they can have in the US who'd be playing with airsoft... Not me, that's for sure.

Thanks guys.

Not sure they'll buy the idea of a nerf gun as a replacement

Maybe Santa will bring a couple of air rifles later.

Our politicians have no logic. They let an 11 yr old play with firearms/air rifles but not a orange-tipped airsoft toy.

If there is an air soft range built, doesn't that counteract the existing law (in Vic) to then have a genuine reason to own one ?

And damn right! Think about what could happen if they had an air-soft gun!

They could have harmless fun with their friends!

We can't have that. No, no no...

It would, except I expect you're probably not allowed to build and "air soft range" because we're not allowed air-soft guns.

It's a wonderful circle of not letting sensible adults do things they'd like to.
