Obligations of owning hunting land

Post by veep » 29 Oct 2014, 10:44 am

Hi guys.

Theoretically... If one wanted to buy a piece of land for hunting and 'let' the pests flourish on it so there were plenty of targets, is that kosher?

Are you under any obligation to work to keep numbers down to a minimum level or to work to cull them X times a year or anything like that?

The shooting would be doing this obviously but you know, s**t happens, if you ended up not being able to get out there for months or whatever could happen. If the council comes and sees you have sooo many pests are there any consequences for you?

Can you let it just go feral basically and just use it when you want?

Yes. Lady Noisy gets letters from the Dept of Name Change regularly telling her to control her rabbit plague. There's hardly a rabbit on the place. I suggested she write straight back to them demanding they control the cats, dogs, rabbits etc. in the national park and state forest directly across the road from her property.
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

You are Vic right?

Then as a landowner you have a lot of responsibilities for pest and weed management. Doesn't matter if it's cleared land or bush.

Read this and other pages on the DEPI website.

Browning BL-22 lever action...open sights
T3 Varmint .204 Ruger...Meopta Meostar 4-16X44
T3 Lite .30-06 Sprg...Aimpoint Hunter 1X red dot

....that will do me

This was sort of my thought.

They send you the letter... and then what? Send you another letter?

Yeah mate, thanks for the link.

I should add to this too I'm not planning on buying somewhere and deliberately letting it go to pot to be an asshole

Just wondering what happens if you get a bit behind etc.
