Post by pete1 » 11 Oct 2015, 11:32 am

Hello

I have some questions about gun licensing in Vic if i had a Victorian Game Licence and applied for a Vic gun licence do i need to be a member of a hunting club? and can i still hunt on private property that i don't own (i would have permission from my friend)?

Thanks in advance.

Nope, you don't need to be a member of a hunting club (like SSAA).

Just attach a copy of your game license as supporting evidence for the reason you ticked (hunting) and that'll do it.

With game permit, I assume deer stalking, you can shoot anywhere hunting is allowed, including private land (with Category A&B). You can also go to shooting clubs. You also do NOT need a club membership of any kind. If you do go to the range, they try to sell SSAA membership because it had insurance... If you have ambulance cover, that covers the insurance suggestion.

If you have a licence with sport as a reason, as far as I remember there are restrictions on where and what you can hunt.

P.s.
If you have a game permit, that's enough for purposes of the license. You do not need any letters from anyone. That is, game license is the purpose, alternatively if you didn't have that, you'd need a letter from the land owner. But since you assert game permit, that's all you need.

You mean the form or the response?

FMD the great white vegetarian vegan non-injurious to animals hunter has spoken....
Ambulance cover!!! what a classic....

Pete, it you want to hunt on your mates property, a letter is enough, if you want to set up a target...and have a blaze.... which you can do with conditions in Vic, you'll need a sport/target endorsement on your licence (easiest is a SSAA membership).... if only shooting animals whether for FUN or meat.... letter is all you need!!

Happy hunting

I just don't see the benefit of being ssaa member. It doesn't provide anything. It has insurance, which is the only real benefit and its an overpriced benefit at that.

Only time you need club membership is if it's the reason for acquiring your firearm.

e.g. if you want to shoot pistols, only reason can be target shooting, so you need a club to show you're doing it.

Reason of hunting lets you do hunting and target shooting anyway but now membership required.
