That's what I thought too but a guy at work is convinced I can't. I can't find anything saying I can't. Do you know what website it is that says it's ok?

Yep. Go to game management authority site.

Here are the deer hunting maps. State forests are included. However as mentioned before, if it's recognised deer habitat and your caught with spotlight, night vision etc. you'll get done big time!

happyhunter wrote:You can't spotlight in state forests. It's illegal. You can only spotlight 500 meters past your properties fence line into state forest. Saying that, whether you get caught doing it is entirely another matter and a chance many people seem to be willing to take.

Incorrect. As long as it's not recognised deer habitat you can for pests.

Check out forest explorer. Some of it is national park and some is state forest.

ok guys did some checking with phone calls today.
1 - you can spotlight in a state forest as long as its not Recognised deer habitat. this is the recognised deer habitat -http://www.gma.vic.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0006/4758/Spotlights-June-2014-artwork.pdf
so basically you CAN NOT spotlight in a state forest in any of these Victorian municipalities

2- the only spotlighting you can do is by foot only. it is illegal to spotlight from car in any form.

obviously if there are others camping in the same area as you in the state forest you will need to use some common sense whether to shoot at night or not.
hope that helps people
