So how do you feel about waiting 56 days?

Colour, I don't know - I copied in colour, but I would think that black and white is perfectly fine.

Front and back - that I don't know and knowing our awesome bureaucracy, I would just stay on the safe side and remove ambiguity.

Thanks for the help guys.

Just wondering - The PTA to acquire is valid for 28 days, meaning once you receive it you have 28 days to make your firearms purchase before it expires and needs to be redone.

What if the gun you want to buy will take 2-3 months to come in from overseas and you want to put a deposit on it? Are you still able to put a deposit down so you have one on hold without doing a PTA in Victoria? And then can the PTA be done once they dealer has it in stock so you can pick it up?

Are you sure it's only valid for 28 days in Vic?

Here in Tas it's valid for 3 months. Might pay to double check that.

Also, unless things are vastly different in Vic, you only need a current PTA to register and take possession of the firearm.

From vic pol website:

Both longarm and handgun permit applications should be submitted to Victoria Police's Licensing & Regulation Division at least four weeks before you require them as the Firearms Act also requires that your first Permit to Acquire cannot be issued until 28 days after it was submitted to LRD and LRD may need to request you supply additional documentation to demonstrate your genuine need to have that firearm.

If your Permit to Acquire application is approved, LRD will send your permit to you directly. You must then pay the permit fee as per the instructions attached to your permit. The permit is valid for 28 days from the date it was printed (as indicated at the top of the permit). If your Permit to Acquire application is refused, LRD will inform you of the reasons your application was denied and any appeal options you have.

As licensed firearm dealers have 28 days to report any transactions they have facilitated to Victoria Police, it can take several weeks before your new firearm will appear on our computer system as registered to you.

Second PTA when done in the shop online is probably 30 min. Definitely the same day.

I'd hate to wait all that time for it to come then when it gets here wait another 28 days till i could go shoot it.
And in the mean time go shoot the 22 to pass the time.

While I'm at it on this thread:

The Vic Po website states:
Please note: You do not need to wait for your firearm licence application to be approved before applying for a Permit to Acquire. You may apply for both at the same time but if your application for a firearm licence is unsuccessful you will not receive a Permit to Acquire and will not be able to purchase a firearm.

Section one of the PTA reads:
Part 1 - Category of Licence
(All applicants must complete this part)
Specify the Firearm Licence Number that the firearm(s) will be acquired and
registered under.

Does this mean I just leave it blank as my licence paper work is still in processing?

Does it really say that on the website????

Do the POPO honestly believe that the class of people applying for a murder death gun licence are so mentally retarded that they need to be instructed, just to clarify, that an unsuccessful licence means no gun gun?? FMD :unknown:

Any police orificers reading this, yes I can see you, plenty of you..... come on. Give 'us' SOMEcredit!

Even if you had a licence number and left it blank - they would be able to find the number, it would be right in front of their faces on the screen.... but no doubt they would send it back as incomplete (at least with a stamp self addressed envolope...to return to them)

Just send the PTA and right a quick explanation on license number that you have already sent that application separately.

They're not complete morons, they'll be able to put 2 and 2 together.

Errrrr... does the actual licence paperwork take about 28 days to be returned for payment and photos?

Also something funny occurred a few days ago....

Got a call from the new DFO that started recently in Prahran asking me if I had done the safety course (which I successfully completed at the beginning of Feb).

Yes about 28 days.

It's likely processed before then but you must wait the mandatory waiting period, once that's up things get rubber stamped and mailed and you'll get them.

Expect 28 + 4-5 days to wrap up.

No idea why your DFO would be asking that now...

Or you can lodge your PTA through a dealer. They do it electronically. They guy told me earlier, on the 29th day, I can go pick up the gun, and pay for the PTA at the same time.

How long from the point of having the photo taken to receiving the licence in the mail does it usually take? The paperwork says anywhere up to 2-3 weeks....

Squiddy, the receipt you have is actually a licence as long as you paid and had your photo taken, until you get the card.

I'll call on Monday to confirm, it doesn't say this anywhere on the front or back in the fine print, and if that is the case I'm going to be pissed because I could have picked up the guns and safe I have on hold TODAY.

*Ah hang on - PTA still not back, don't think I can do anything yet anyway.
