PTA in Vic for Cat A

Post by Dexer » 20 Mar 2016, 8:55 pm

Hey guys,

When filling out a PTA for a 12g, is the make and model required, or is it possible simply to state a 12 gauge?

Category A longarms: Prior to applying for a Permit to Acquire you are required to identify the firearm Type and Calibre only.

So make/model is not required I am guessing for a shotgun? It's not entirely clear what is or is not required really. Don't want to send it off with missing details.

Cheers

As far as a remember cat a permits are generic and let you get any cat a firearm, so it won't matter so much what you put in, cat b are the ones which come back for that specific make,cal action type

Just on this - when I was filling it out for my air rifle the other week it says you do not need to state a genuine reason for a cat A so I left this blank.

Anyone had a problem with doing this?

You need to specify TYPE and CALIBRE (or chambering, the popo dont know the difference)

So for a Cat A, you'll then need to enter either;
[SH] for type: Shotgun, or
[RF] for rimfire rifle

or possibly for a combo;
[CR] combination rimfire.

For Cat A you dont need to 'justify' your proposed acquisition with a genuine need/reason....

GOD bless you in Australia, your government sure isn't.
I've been asked: "How many guns do you need to have?" My answer remains the same: "One more."

It should be that you need a PTA??

You've been sufficiently mind altered to believe in the NFA there benny boy..... You've already been proven fit to own guns :lol: :lol: :thumbsup:

But yes, Cat A no genuine need / reason required

They give you a generic one, you can put what ever CAT A calibre in there and when you get it you can purchase a different calibre.
