Purchase permit Queation

Post by pete1 » 06 Jun 2016, 7:16 am

So silly question and probably being answered before but keep getting told something different.

So in Vic the form you fill out to purchase a firearm you have to wait 28 days when its your first but when its your second/ third/ etc you don't have to wait 28 days, but do you still post it to the police or hand it directly into the gun shop?

Thanks in advance

G'day pete1,
For subsequent firearms you can apply for the permit at most dealers, who will submit your application electronically to LRD, you do not need to fill out anything. Generally the permit will arrive in a couple of days, occasionally quicker. You can also fill out the application form and scan and email it to LRD or mail it in. Cheers.

Once you own a firearm, the subsequent is processed on receipt, so if YOU sent it in, which should be emailed, can be posted (if you're not particularly rushed).. If emailed you can even use pdf editor and drop in your gif sig...keep it all electronic if you like or scan/photo the handwritten form...

If emailed it may return by the end of the week.
If through the dealer, depending on whether theyre on smoko at the Registry at the time - it could take from 1/2 hr, or a few hours... maybe a bit longer

Email is at the top of the form.... I used to drop the PTA forms at the local cop shop, until it was decided the forms would no longer be internally posted to the city....that would be too inconvenient for them....
