Gun carry requirements?

Post by S O K A R » 20 Aug 2022, 3:49 pm

Was having a conversation about something yesterday that made me wonder, what are the legal requirements for carrying a firearm from car > range, car > gunshop/gunsmith etc? basically anywhere in public
I've always used a gun bag, is it anything that is able to conceal that it is a firearm? sleeve, blanket etc?
Or has to be something in particular? (i.e a gun bag/case)

Good question
I know it's preferred that they remain covered with a bag or blanket as to prevent scaring the sheeple, I've seen that written somewhere on the SA PTA paperwork re entering the station for registration, however I can't remember ever seeing anything specifically written in the act ar legislation covering carrying firearms in public.

Here in WAlcatraz years ago we had to take our firearm acquisitions from the dealer to the local Police station for final inspection. The last time I did I didn’t have a rifle bag on me, so after carrying it and plopping it on the counter, Sarge advised me to remove the bolt rather than just have it open or in the action at all.
But that was a decade or more ago

If you're in Nanny South Wales:

I use a lockable hard case chained to a hard point inside my car.

QLD prescribes use of a 'securely closed container' which includes fabric gun bags but probably not just wrapping in a blanket, in addition the bolt must be removed or a trigger lock fitted and the firearm stored out of sight.

It's funny that firearms can still be sent through the postal service in a cardboard box with some tape around it to keep it closed.
