Inspection Wait Times

Post by Toolnup » 13 Nov 2022, 3:32 pm

Quick question.

Finally got my safe installed and contacted weapons licensing to organize an inspection and am wondering how long they take to get around to doing it?

Do you get any paperwork afterwards to say it's good to go or is it just a verbal thumbs up?

Cheers

I moved from NSW to Qld in 2003. Haven't had an inspection yet.
If your secure storage facility, whatever it may be, complies, and you are complying with the requirements, what is the problem?
Do you want another tick of approval from officialdom?

My bad. Had not updated my profile to Tas after moving from Qld.

Yes apparently the safe inspection is a mandatory requirement down here before you can store firearms. Never had one in the 15 years of firearm ownership before.

All my gear is sitting in storage waiting for whatever I need to wait for so I can get them transferred onto my new Tas license.

When they had to come inspect my stuff, they wanted to do it there and then.
But I was busy so arranged it for 3 days after that.

Usually they'll transfer you to your local station as its the uniform officers from said station that do the actual inspection, if they don't get onto it just ring them up every couple of days until you book in an appointment for the inspection.

Thanks.

What happens after that? I imagine it would then need to go back to weapons licensing?

Yeah, from my understanding they send their report back to licensing and they send you out a letter letting you know the outcome
But if the safe in question doesn't pass, the inspecting officer should let you know so you can make adjustments and rebook another inspection

Hope that helps
