Chiappa little badger: Too small to be legal?

Post by Heckler303 » 05 Sep 2015, 2:43 pm

Hey everybody, I've been interested in the Chiappa little badger for a long while now. Something cheap, folds in half and fits into a backpack and would make a great pull-out lightweight rabbit rifle. The calibre of choice for me is 17HMR (single shot = save money) and they come around 200 dollars + PTA.

But before I ask the old man to fork out money for one, are little badgers too small/barrel length too short to have here in Tassie? Are barrel length laws similar around the country? Any help would be appreciated very much.

The Tassie length requirement is for the length to be not less than 65cm (s116 of the Tassie Act).

The Little Badgers in 22LR have a barrel of 42cm and an overall length of 81cm (there is a longer version too).

It looks like when it folds down this is through the same hinge that breaks the action and therefore it looks like it might be ok. The one thing odd looking at it is it seems like there may be a hex nut to remove the stock - this may be an issue.

Close one - might be worth emailing the registry to check first!

I can't decide if I want one for novelty now just because its so damn ugly ! ;)

Thanks for the help, so it looks like I will be able to get it after all.

Also, from a new viewpoint, it would look kinda ugly, but it's actually pretty accurate + Comfy to hold. You can go full tacticool on it too if you want, that'll be sweet :D

If it doesn't quite fit right, just bend the wire until it does.

Seriously, seriously, SERIOUSLY fugly, but I suppose that it fills a purpose...

Well the A-10 warthog is fugly, but have you seen the damage that thing can do?

I wonder if I can put in a PTA in for one. Do you think sports/target shooting is a good reason for one?

Sports/target sounds right to me. Being a single shot break action it wouldn't be much good for anything else :P

I meant a PTA for the warthog and its 30mm Vulcan cannon. :problem:

Oooorrr, you could always write:

They are very....far away...foxes....like...as they're still over in britain kinda of far away.....

Crap, would we have to pay a fine if we shot something off into the distance and it traveled internationally? I'd hate to pay first class for a .308 travelling from Tasmanian shooting range to British highlands

You gotta nail that fox from miles away because if they get too close they could maul you and cause serious injury.

To be safe we should be allowed to lay claymores in a defensive pattern around us when we are out fox calling...
