Once you've applied for your licence, you get approved, and you'll get a letter from SAPOL telling you to do the course. Then contact TAFE with the details from that letter and book the course. TAFE will send you a textbook and a workbook for you to study and answer questions, and that will give you the info you need to do the course on the day. All up, 60 questions, multiple choice, and then some shooting at a range with a .22 (10 rounds) and a shotgun (5 rounds). Its pretty easy. But if you haven't s**t much, see if you can get some practise with a friend or at a range, beforehand. Then you wait. I did my course in October, they're currently processing licences for August courses, I was told last week ( first week of December). I reckon the whole process from initial application to buying my first firearm will just about bang on one year.
