Shooting on private property in SA

Post by jaydimasi » 05 Aug 2019, 5:30 pm

Hello all,

New firearms owner and now licensed.
I have a question regarding shooting on private property

My uncle has just over 10 acres in a rural area, some houses close by but not in near proximity.

Am i legally allowed to shoot on his property?
Any feedback is helpful, i tried looking on SAPOL and a few other sites but couldn't find any information about this.

Thanks all!

In Queensland recreational shooting is permitted on any size property if your license allows it and as long as it is zoned rural and the bullet never leaves the property, you also can't cause nuisance with noise or frighten people by being visible with a gun from neighboring public areas.

For SA I'm not sure but hopefully it's similar.

You really need to ask the Police as they're the ones that'll be responding to any complaints.
But as long as the property is rural, and you can safely shoot within the boundaries I can't see a problem. I would highly recommend talking to any neighbours likely to hear you and let them know what your intentions are.

To the best of my knowledge there are no size restrictions on property in sa but you do have to be 2km from a built up area I believe. I shoot on my sister's a lot and that's a 20 acre farmlet

Near proximity?
How near?
What are you proposing to shoot at/with?
Council zoning?
I’m a blocky...15 acres zoned ‘rural living’. My neighbor is more than happy for me to snot ‘pest’ species on mine and his. Is it legal? Likely not.
10 acres doesn’t give you a lot of margin....

I'm guessing you're pretty confident it is legal, or you probably wouldn't go online and tell the world that you are shooting illegally on "rural living" zoned property...

Yep, not allowed to do anything anymore without some kind of licence or permit.

Ive posted this previously and there might be more to the story (not that I’m aware of) but an acquaintance who posted on face book, videos of him shooting at some reactive targets on public property - lost absolutely everything.
His licence reason for ownership was hunting - and he clearly was not hunting...
Yes - I agree, his name is an easy find on platforms like FB, but be aware I guess...

The more restrictive the gun laws the more the illicit trade in guns is made lucrative for the criminals.
