Unregistered firearm seized - Advise wanted

Post by Dirtydog » 05 Sep 2022, 7:22 am

Hi all,

I've had a legally purchased fire arm seized. It wasn't registered, I wasn't charged and still have my collection.

What's worst and best case scenario, can anyone advise?

HIRE A LAWYER, worst case you will be charged on Summons, issued a Suspension requiring you to surrender your Licence and firearms sent to a dealer, found guilty and lose everything. Best case, and this happened to my Mrs here in Vic regarding an air rifle we found at her late Mothers house during clearout and simply forgot to register, and our Laws are similar, charged on Summons, no suspension issued, Police asked Magistrate for a Diversion, found guilty and fined but no conviction recorded so she kept her Licence. Paid the Lawyer.
