Firearms Branch SA

Post by on_one_wheel » 16 Mar 2015, 6:21 pm

Just recieved my " first and final warning " to renew my firearms licence in the post today, and i am outraged that it has been sent in an unsealed and open envelope.

You dont need to be a brain surgeon to work out what risc that might pose to my security.

Im just dumbfounded ... had the paperwork fallen out i could have allowed my licence to lapse , anyone could have seen all my details, whats to say that no one has ?

Great to know we can trust the Firearms branch :drinks:

I have called several times today but they are " too busy " i might go and show my local ssaa branch.

Do it. Could be a good piece for an article. With all the flak we cop over it to show how the registry runs things.

Would a trip to your local MP get any support as well?

Your local MP should be informed as well as the minister for police etc. be the noisiest squeaky wheel you can be! Stick it right up em!

Final warning, does sound overly dramatic and threatening, but they are simply saying that theyre not going to send another reminder.... if it was your daisy and buttercups licence to harvest love and joy from the bountiful forest to occupy the environment type of underprivileged city type.... then they would send you 8 reminders and it would be along the lines of "sorry to disturb you from you obviously worthwhile life contributing to the betterment of mankind... but just a little note to say.....

As far as notifying your MP, dont bother, they would probably use the security matter raised, to add fuel to further complicating the process for shooters :silent: what would he/she say anyway?? kindly request a piece of stickytape in the future?

You never know, would depend on the MP.

Call and test the waters first before giving him 'evidence' ?

Forget the SSAA, and the only MP you should contact is your States Police Minister. Outline the above concerns and tell him you want him to conduct a Ministerial investigation into this matter. Include dates and time when you attempted to contact Firearms Branch, if you used your mobile phone these calls will be logged on your handset. When he contacts you with a hundred excuses, including that he has complete faith in the firearms branch, the police in general and AusPost, then remind him of Sylvania Waters incident, the Tasmanian firearms shopping list incident, the QLD civilian police worker who passed on information to her bikie partner incident and all the stories of registry breaches from all around the country. Also, at this time tell him you want him to personally guarantee you and your families safety, this of course he can not and will not do, and ultimately none of this mean squat except as a moral victory for yourself and all LAFOs in that pollies and Govts need to stop using us as whipping boys.

Of course if you really want to sh*t stir, contact the Fed terrorist hotline and tell them that you have had mail tampered with that may lead to terrorists getting their hands on firearms to use in a terrorist attack.

They could just as easily put something like "Please note: This is the only reminder you will receive for you firearms license renewal."

Could be big, bold and red or whatever they want so it can't be missed and it wouldn't have the same 'tone' to it.

Except first thing they'd do is likely take them off you to 'secure' them.

Didnt give any evidence.... just my 'for what its worth' opinion.

By all means, ring up your MP, send an email, that's what they're there for, to represent your interests and your will, in theory anyway (in practice its the interests and the will of the party, as is plainly obvious).

On a matter relating to a letter that didnt have any glue on the flap.... I doubt even the secretary of his/her electoral office will call you back :unknown:

They might as well be sending sensitive information like , name , address and FIREARMS OWNER in bold print on the back of a post card.

I have some time to spare over the next few days to pick up where i left off, so I will be making a few calls.

Cheers for the above advice fellas

Bit off topic now but does anyone know employment details for postal delivery guys?

Given the potentially sensitive information they're carrying around in general do they have to pass any background checks or anything, does anyone know?

Found this on their site.

Australia Post requires all prospective employees to successfully pass a number of pre-employment checks prior to an offer of employment being made.

The pre-employment checks may include a police check, a medical assessment, a work rights check and reference checks.

Further information regarding these checks will be provided throughout the recruitment process.
