Import permit!

Post by andym79 » 12 Nov 2013, 5:19 pm

What exactly do you need an import permit for?

Ammunition
Firearms
Projectiles
Brass
Barrels
Magazines

Do you need an import permit for a magazine tube, my Winchester tube has a big dent in it and I want to replace it! If a permit is needed does anyone import magazines and magazine components for sale here?

Also where do you obtain the relevant B709 forms from? I have seen in some states the forms are available for download, not here in SA.

Any help would be much appreciated.

SA Police website has an importing information sheet for download here - http://www.sapolice.sa.gov.au/public/do ... p?id=48643

Covers everything pretty well...

ACT Gov have the B709 form on their website here - http://www.police.act.gov.au/~/media/ac ... ation.ashx

The form is a Federal Police document anyway, so I don't think it matters that it's form the ACT site. It's not an "ACT version" or anything.

Edit, sorry it does have an 'ACT firearms registry use only' section on there so probably not useful in every state.
See you on the firing line.

You'll need a permit for all those things, even the ammo components.

"To import ammunition and components of ammunition into Australia, importers must first obtain written certification from the police firearms or weapons registry in their State or Territory, the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department, or the Minister for Home Affairs prior to importation."

Even that's not consistent.

I've had mates bring in multiple stocks and some got through, some got seized.

Pot luck...

I am more than happy to purchase it here in Australia, but who sells or imports tubular magazines for old Winchester 1894s?

The mags come up second hand a bit when people have rifles with shot out barrels.

You could put a 'want to buy' ad in the classifieds.

Snap caps are just a bit of squishy plastic.

Wouldn't need a permit.
